The objective of the Road Safety Audit process is to provide an effective, independent review of the road safety implications of engineering interventions for all road users.
A Road Safety Audit seeks to identify aspects of engineering interventions that could give rise to road safety problems and to suggest modifications that could improve road safety.
Road Safety Audits in the UK are normally undertaken to the guidance in the DMRB document GG119: Road Safety Audits.
Road Safety Audits are normally undertaken at each of the following stages:
Completion of preliminary design.
Completion of detailed design.
Completion of construction.
Post opening monitoring.
Road Safety Audits are led by Kevin McMahon who is A Fellow of the Society of Road Safety Auditors and holds a Certificate of Competency that meets the requirements of GG119 and Article (1-3) of Directive 2008/96/EC.
